Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles: 5 reasons to go to Shanghai
05.07.2018, Выставки

Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles starts on the 27th of August in Shanghai. WilliZ traditionally pays much attention to this trade fair and here are the reasons why.

It is one of the biggest textile shows in Asia
The show can be compared to Heimtextil Frankfurt in terms of its scale, as it also is organized by Messe Frankfurt company. The event is huge: more than 1000 participants from 30 countries, almost 40 000 visitors from 99 countries will take part in this fair.

Focus on export and international cooperation
Chinese home textiles export continues to grow (almost USD 40 billion in 2017). The key market is the USA, although producers are targeting to reach new markets as well.

The majority of factories, introducing their products at Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles already has experience with dealing with export: well-established cooperation formats and logistic chains, as well as skilled export managers make cooperation with textile factories much easier.

Editors and premium fabrics
Chinese domestic market is also growing. By the year of 2020 it is expected to reach its volumes equal to those of the export – USD 38 billion.
The growth of domestic market and increase of requirements for fabrics have resulted in the introduction of factories-editors.

They create their own collections (including premium textiles) and sell them as editors, with small MOQ. Designs and quality of their fabrics are very similar to the TOP textile brands, moreover, sometimes one can see their fabrics in the collections of worldwide editors.

However, there is another side – the price level is higher than usual Chinese label (although it is not that high as premium editors’ one). You can also come across the distributors pretending they are producers and pay an additional markup for textiles.

Contract textiles
Chinese production of contract textiles becomes more and more active. It is largely connected with the increase of domestic tourism and number of hotels.

China can become one of the leading suppliers of hi-tech fabrics in the next years.

Trends
Trend-zone of the show is traditionally the responsibility of Nelly Rodi, French trend-bureau. You can read several interviews with Vincent Gregoire, the bureau’s CCO, at WilliZ.

In 2016 we published the article from the trade fair’s trend zone, named “New generation wants to play!” The trends Vincent has predicted in this interview became true at Maison&Objet in a year and a half.

If you want to know more about the future of textile trends – look at the Intertextile Shanghai Home Textiles trend zone.
